Beverly Jeanette (Mullins) Byrd passed away peacefully from this earth Saturday April 27, 2024, at Corn Heritage Village in Weatherford at the age of 74. She was surrounded by loved ones as she left this earth to finish her race and gain her ultimate prize of eternity with our Lord.

Funeral service was 10 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2024, at Ethel McClain Gymnasium, in Sickles, with Jimie-Wray Mead and James Cudd officiating. Services were entrusted to Turner Funeral Home, of Hinton.

Beverly was born January 22, 1950, in Hinton, to Junior and Helen Deloris (Andrews) Mullins. She was raised on the farm in the Sickles area and attended Sickles school then later graduating from Lookeba-Sickles high school in May 1968.

One fateful evening around the Sickles store in the fall of 1967 she met a cute college boy from Hinton who was home helping with peanut harvest. Somehow this farm boy convinced Beverly he was the one.

Beverly was married to Dennis Lee Byrd August 17, 1968, at the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Lookeba.

Soon after marriage Dennis and Beverly moved to Port Arthur, Texas, for Dennis’s first teaching job in industrial arts.

The newlywed’s stay in Texas was brief and they soon moved back to Oklahoma where Dennis took a job as teacher and coach at Lomega schools.

At this time Beverly, began commuting to Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford to attain her education degree.

Upon graduation, Beverly began her teaching career at Cement and then Cyril before the Byrds settled back in the Lookeba-Sickles community in 1980 Beverly impacted hundreds of kids as an elementary teacher in her lengthy teaching career.

She loved her students and had a passion for helping them succeed.

Many of her fellow teachers at Lookeba-Sickles elementary school were her closest friends.

Beverly also was a spiritual leader serving as a Bible class teacher for many years at the Hinton Church of Christ. Her three boys were her pride and joy as she attended countless numbers of ballgames, stock shows and other activities.

She was the best mom any boy could ask for.

But then came her grand kids! Beverly (Nana) was so proud of all ten of her grandchildren and enjoyed attending their ballgames, music concerts, dance recitals and other events up until just a few months ago.

Beverly was an inspiration to all who knew her with the grace and strength she displayed over the past 16 years since her diagnosis with Parkinsons disease. She fought the disease with a smile, never wavering in her strong faith in God. Beverly and Dennis loved each other dearly for more than 56 years setting the standard for the Byrd family for what a Christ centered marriage should look like.

This legacy will live on for generations through her sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren.

Survivors include: her husband, Dennis Byrd, of the home in Lookeba; three sons, Brandon Byrd and wife, Lacey, of Drummond, Jason Byrd and wife, Shawna, of Hinton, and Gavan Byrd and wife, Melody, of Weatherford; grandchildren, Corbin Byrd, Ethan and wife, Rylie Byrd, Spencer Byrd, Samuel Byrd, Dayona Byrd, Jaylen Byrd, Rosson Byrd, Easton Byrd, Brynlee Byrd and Brystol Byrd; and one sister, Sharbee Sheets and her husband, Brad, of Yukon.
