Cache started off with a made 3-pointer. Weatherford went on a quick 10-0 run with plays like Jordan Hoffman getting a steal midcourt and scoring a fast break layup.

In the third quarter, Weatherford opened the third quarter on a 13-0 run, starting with Meliah Brown scoring a 3-pointer, making the score 56-12.

Cache scored to stop the run, but Jordan Hoffman started a 12-2 run, as she scored two layups in a row and was fouled. She made her free throws, making the score 60- 14. Jordan Hoffman scored 10 points in this quarter and coach Grant Givens pulled his starters after the third quarter.

“I thought we played really well, especially on defense,” Givens said. “We forced lots of turnovers, played great half-court defense and were able to score baskets off of those forced turnovers.”

Weatherford controlled the fourth quarter and won the game 84-24. Abbie Moses scored 8 points and Peyton Foster scored 6 points. Givens said the bench played well and Foster made some good plays on defense.

“Peyton is a great athlete,” Givens said. “She is long and has a knack for playing great defense. She got a steal and ran the floor really well. I expect her by this time next season to be a really good player for us.”

Jordan Hoffman scored 28 points and Sage scored 15 points for Weatherford in the game. Givens said Jordan Hoffman ran the floor and did a good job executing off the turnovers she forced.

“Jordan had a great game,” Givens said. “She forced several turnovers and played great defense. She scored points off of those turnovers and did a great job keeping everything in front of her. Jordan has a great ability of getting out in front and running the floor.”

Givens said a game like this really helps everyone and it is great experience for the bench to get varsity playing time.

“A game like this helps kids who do not get as much playing time to get playing time,” Givens said. “They might not be the seven or eight main girls, but could be down the road maybe next year of the year after. It is important to get everyone varsity experience, because there might be an injury down the road. The more playing time players get, the better it is for everyone.”

Weatherford 58, Chickasha 23

Weatherford jumped out to a quick 7-0 advantage. Sage scored four of those points and she had three rebounds. Addy Hoffman also hit a 3-pointer during that quick start.

Weatherford opened the third quarter on a 12-2 run and was ahead 40-12. Sage played a big part in this lead, scoring 24 of 40 Weatherford’s points

“I am thankful for my teammates because they made good passes and helped me get open to score,” Sage said. “I cannot play well without them. We are still a little tired from the tournament and are ready to keep playing basketball.”

Roberson hit a 3-pointer and Weatherford was ahead 43-15 at the end of the third quarter.

“We played great on defense and kept them away from the basket,” Givens said. “They did not get very many easy looks and I just thought we defended well.”

The bench played in the fourth quarter. Moses scored two 3-pointers and Weatherford won the game 58-23. Weatherford forced 20 turnovers and went 4-6 from the foul line. Sage scored 26 points and had 7 rebounds.

“Defensively, we did what we needed to do,” Givens said. “We forced several turnovers and did a great job rebounding the ball. We were not hitting in the first half, but got it going better in the second half. I think it was just a post tournament hangover, because we looked sluggish at times, which happens often. We had a tough games against Tuttle and thought we could have played better against Chickasha, but am happy to get the win.”

Weatherford improves to 12-2 and returns to action, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on the road at Elgin. Weatherford defeated Elgin 73-17 last week 73-17 in the Weatherford tournament.
