“I always have liked Weatherford,” Pond said. “It is a great place to raise a family. The people of Weatherford are great and anytime people need something, we are ready to help out anyways we can. To us, it is a big town compared to Binger-Oney.”

Pond and her husband Doug grew up in Albert and both went to SWOSU. She played basketball from 1988-92. After graduating from SWOSU, they moved back to Binger-Oney, and then moved to Weatherford. They go to First Baptist Church and were overwhelmed at first due to the size, but got used to it and realized how nice and caring everyone is in Weatherford. When they returned to Weatherford, she was an assistant girls basketball coach at SWOSU from 1996-98 and was the head coach from 2000-09.

“We really like the small-town feel,” Pond said. “We love our church family and the people here are just great. Several people here would give the shirt off their back if one needed and the people here are just great people. People always are looking out for my kids and I.”

She has two kids, Brooks and Bailee Pond. Brooks just graduated from SWOSU and earned his degree in manufacturing engineering and Bailee just graduated Weatherford. Bailee played softball and basketball and Pond said she enjoyed coaching her daughter Bailee.

“It was a great experience coaching Bailee,” Pond said. “I am glad I was able to have that opportunity and it is great quality time I got to spend with her.”

She said her favorite memory coaching was winning the Lone Star Conference in 2006 and coaching her daughter Baliee, especially during her senior year.

“It was a tough year and we saw a lot of kids grow because we lost a teammate in a car accident,” Pond said. “They really overcame a lot and were there for one another and really came together at the right time. I also enjoyed coaching Bailee and being part of her senior season.”

Pond has been at Weatherford Middle School for 6 years and this was her second season as the high school basketball assistant. She taught Geography initially and this is her fourth year teaching computers. “I like a job well done and am somewhat of a perfectionist,” Pond said. “Everything I do is 100 percent and the best I can do.”

Pond loves taking pictures of sports and making colleagues in Photoshop. She likes to read books on her Kindle. She has lots of favorite genres such as murder mysteries and Christian fiction. Along with coaching basketball, she is an assistant eighth-grade track coach and the assistant middle school athletic director. She also is in charge of the middle school yearbook.

Pond said she has learned she is a perfectionist throughout coaching basketball and teaching.

“I have learned patience,” Pond said. “I learned patience dealing with the different personalities in the classroom and coaching basketball.”
