Cade Berkey, 18, is a senior at Hydro-Eakly High School.

His family consists of his parents, Paul and Dena Berkey and his four siblings. He is planning to attend college on a track/cross country scholarship and obtain a degree in business.

Berkey was very active all throughout his years at H-E. He has participated in basketball, baseball, cross country and track. He has qualified for state three times in cross country, and he also qualified for state in basketball in his junior year.

Berkey said playing in the Jim Norwick Arena for the state basketball tournament was his favorite memory while attending H-E.

“I’ve always dreamed of playing there since I was 5-years-old,” he said. “Making that dream a reality was the coolest thing ever.”

When it comes to academics, Berkey has been very successful as well. He was on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll for 3 years. He also is a member of the National Honor Society and the Renaissance Academic Honors Club.

Berkey’s favorite part about high school is being able to play sports. He also enjoys the opportunity to give back to his community through the school. He appreciates the many opportunities H-E has to offer. Berkey also loves the student body as well as the staff.

Berkey said being a senior is weird.

“We’re not supposed to be here, yet here we are,” he said. “Everything has gone by so fast with a 5-month spring break,” he said.

When asked about what he was going to miss the most about high school, Berkey said the teachers and all of his friends.

“If you have a dream, go chase it,” Berkey said to underclassmen. “Don’t let obstacles get in the way of doing what you want to do in life.”
