Dr. Amanda Evert is the recipient of the first “Tier 1 — Developing Supportive Spaces” award as part of Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Diversity & Inclusion professional development program on the Weatherford campus.

SWOSU Dean of Students Joshua Engle recently presented the award to Evert, associate professor in the School of Business & Technology.

In 2019, SWOSU implemented its first Diversity & Inclusion professional development program. Those who participated were asked to develop or alter a program on campus to add further insights into diversity and inclusion concepts. She included content, discussion and assignments into her graduate course.

According to Engle, the additions provide students with more knowledge of diversity in students’ chosen fields. It also provides an experiential exercise by requiring students to discuss concepts they have covered in the course with a professional in their field.

“Evert has worked diligently to implement this content into her course,” Engle said. “We thank Evert for helping SWOSU continue its mission by committing to ‘respect, by fostering a safe, healthy and diverse intellectual, cultural and social environment which encourages emotional well-being.’”
