OSU County Extension Director Jordan Nel said this year’s premium auction at the Custer County Junior Livestock Show raised about $10,000 more than the previous year.
The premium sale was last Tuesday.
Nel said the current grand total is between $64,000 and $65,000 without add-ons from businesses or individuals afterwards. She said the auction typically makes just as much or more in add-ons.
All the money goes to the student who exhibited the animal.
The premium auction was done a bit differently this year. Due to COVID-19, animals were displayed on a screen with the exhibitor. In addition, OSSAA Class A regionals were the same night, making scheduling a bit difficult.
However, Nel said everything went well overall and the parents seemed to enjoy it.
