The Corn Bible Academy Crusaders volleyball team won at Snyder Thursday after dropping a game to Southwest Covenant 3-0 Tuesday.

CBA 3, Snyder 0

The last time these two teams played was in the Weatherford tournament and Corn Bible won 2-1 in really close sets.

This time, Corn Bible won 3-0 and was in control most of the way through. Corn Bible won the first two sets 25-15 and they won the third set 25-20.

“After going to the extra set against Snyder at the Weatherford tournament, we were glad to win in the minimum this time,” Basinger said. “We started off focused and more ready to play, and were able to keep the errors down in the first two sets. We became a little sloppy in the third, which allowed Snyder to stay close.”

Basinger said bouncing back after losing to a good team like Southwest Covenant will help keep their confidence high.

“It is always nice to get a win right away after losing to keep from getting discouraged or frustrated,” Basinger said. “In order to beat a team like Southwest Covenant, our serve receive game needs to improve as well as our offense. We can only play defense so long before they will find a spot we cannot cover, so it is important we find a way to convert our defense into offense.”

They lost the first set 25-16. They lost the second set 25-23 and lost the third set 26-24 in extra time.

“The first set was one filled with errors and a slow start,” Basinger said. “Late in the second set, we started to make a comeback and lost 23-25. We were able to carry that momentum into the third set and the score stayed close all the way through.”

Even though CBA lost 3-0 and the game was closer than the score indicated, Basinger said there are some positives the girls took from the match.

“When the game was done, the girls commented on how much fun it was to play that well against a good team, and how working together really makes a difference,” Basinger said. “Playing teams like Southwest Covenant prepares us for the postseason by showing us what we will face and motivating us to raise our level of play now. Competing against challenging teams always makes you better.”
