The Weatherford City Commission voted Thursday to approve the purchase of the property of the old hospital, located at 215 N. Kansas.

The city offered Weatherford Regional Hospital, Inc., and Weatherford Regional Hospital Board Authority $75,000 for the old hospital building. The supplemental appropriation is planned to be placed into the 2021 budget.

During a Weatherford Regional Hospital Board Authority meeting Monday, members of both boards unanimously voted to accept the offer from the city to sell the old hospital building, there was no further discussion for the topic during this meeting.

“The City of Weatherford wants to have this property, and the board wants the city to have it. The board works on what’s best for the hospital organization in Weatherford, accepting this offer is us as an organization being loyal to our city,” Brad Berrong, Secretary of the Weatherford Regional Hospital, Inc., board said.

The contract must be accepted by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) before the deal is official.

The city plans to use the old hospital as the site of a new station for the Weatherford Police Department.
