City commission approves items during December meeting

A Weatherford City Commission meeting took place Thursday where various topics were discussed for the new year.

Ward 4 commissioner Mark Shadid was absent for the meeting.

The Hotel/Motel Committee asked for approval to grant the Heartland of America Museum for marketing in 2021 in the amount of $29,969. The commission unanimously approved the grant.

‘‘The Heartland Museum is one of the entity’s which receives a sum of the hotel/motel money, a majority of the money goes toward promotion and advertising,” hotel/ motel board member James Ratcliffe said.

The commission unanimously approved a professional service agreement between the city of Weatherford and multi-county youth services for use of community intervention center services (CIC).

The commissioners unanimously approved a supplemental services appropriation for the police department in the amount of $4,959 to lease equipment with DDI leasing, Inc. “Our computer system for our camera systems has crashed. We can pay for the system one of two ways by either buying it outright which will cost about $21,000 or by doing a lease deal which will give us 2 years of warranty and free maintenance” Flowers said. The commission unanimously approved a 2021 fire union contract.

“The contract was to change the fire employee’s personal day into the annual vacation time. It’s not going to change anything financially it just helps us with accounting” Fire Chief Mike Karlin said.

The commission approved a resolution which will include a supplemental appropriation in order to install rail road signals for the crossing located along South Custer. The city will be paying for 10 percent of the cost of the signals which will be $28,000. Lezley Bell took oath of office for City Commission

Ward III, after being elected in November. Bell will be the first women to represent the city in more than 40 years.
