Weatherford City Commissioners Friday afternoon approved purchasing a property for $800,000 and annexing the property formerly occupied by JC Cowboys.

According to city clerk Ashley VanDeburgh, that property is the former JC Cowboys located on the southwest side of Interstate 40 and SH 54. Bo and Lisa Seibold, who purchased the JC Cowboys property, said if they get it going soon, they will be adding on to the back and could have a steakhouse.

In an email from owners the Seibolds earlier this week said, “JC Cowboys is a nostalgic building which was rapidly deteriorating and becoming an eyesore on the west side of Weatherford. We hated to see the building in that condition when it could be turned around and made into an asset to the community. Our business plan, once the building is brought in compliance with building code, will be to open a private venue and shortly thereafter a family friendly steakhouse featuring live music. Many people have memories of JC Cowboys from their youth and we would like to make it a fun, entertaining place once again. Weatherford is our home town and we want to continue to help the town grow.”

The second item approved was purchasing property for $800,000 at 1605 Airport Road.

That property is the former Chaparral Energy, LLC, building.

Mayor Mike Brown said this building would be used for “Economic Development. (The building could be used for a) possible substation for the fire department, a training facility in partnership with SWOSU, office space for city-related businesses (Red Cross, Sherriff, nonprofits, etc). Investment. Lot of ideas, nothing concrete.”

Other discussion included Mayor Brown discussing the possibility of mask recommendation. Ward 1 City Commissioner, Rick Miller said. Weatherford should look at what other towns are doing. City Attorney David Duncan said masks should be strongly encouraged.
