The Weatherford City Commission passed a water rate increase, 5-0 during its meeting Wednesday.

The water increase is based upon those who buy water in bulk from the city. The cost of the water has gone from $10 per 1,000 gallon to $15 per 1,000 gallon.

“Right now we’re doing $10 per 1,000 gallon. I think $15 dollars is fair,” director of Parks and Recreation Trent Perkins said.

“Companies who need to buy bulk water are given a meter and based upon the water they use we charge them per 1,000 gallons, it’s mostly for people who do yard spraying and construction workers who might need to spray down the dirt to keep dust from blowing. It comes out of the fire hydrants and it’s a quick way of getting people water,” Mayor Mike Brown said.
