OSU Extension Educator Jordan Nel gave an update on the 99th Annual State 4-H Roundup, which happened virtually this year. Custer County participants won several awards, including 4-H Hall of Fame inductee Erin Slagell. This is the third year in a row Custer County has had a hall-of-fame inductee at the state level. Read more about the roundup in the weekender edition of the Weatherford Daily News.

The Custer County Board of Commissioners rejected the bids for the two District 1 trucks for sale during the regular meeting Monday morning.

Each truck received a single bid from JT’s Wrecker Service in Clinton. The 1996 freight tractors received a bid for $3,100, and the 2006 dump bed received a bid of $3,200. District 1 Commissioner Wade Anders suggested the board rejects the bids because they were below what he thought the trucks were worth. The board decided to put the trucks on Purple Wave Auctions.

The board also was set to discuss the quotes for mowing the Custer County Fairgrounds. The regular caretaker will be out for several weeks due to upcoming medical procedures, so the county needed to get quotes for someone working on an “as-needed” basis.

No quotes were submitted despite some local people and businesses expressing interest. The board and county clerk Melissa Graham will discuss their options at a later date.

In other business, the board approved blanket purchase orders and purchase orders for payment.

In unforeseen business, Emergency Management Director Mike Galloway said the PPE sources are “drying up,” which means local groups, and even the county, will need to buy their own and then apply for CARES grants to cover the costs.

For now, the county still has several gallons of the cleaning solution used with the fogger sanitizing machines, which is stored at different locations in the county. Businesses and organizations interested in using this solution can contact the Emergency Management office at (580) 323-4105. Galloway said the solution should last for a while.
