County approves new phone service contract

The Custer County Board of Commissioners approved a new, 1-year contract with AT&T during its regular meeting Monday morning.

The contract switches the courthouse to a fiber plan and reduces the monthly payments from $2,633 to $1,960 plus taxes. In addition, the new plan includes long-distance.

The contract is for 1 year, but the price is guaranteed for 2 years.

In other business, the board approved some additions to Oklahoma Department of Transportation 324a for District 1. This put money into the revolving fund related to the project. The board also approved an agreement with ODOT to purchase a 2016 compactor with a padfoot drum.

The board approved a transfer of a 2006 pickup truck from Sales Tax General to Highway District 2.

The board received an update on the courthouse window project. After dealing with COVID-19, the work crew returned Monday and will begin with the canteen, then move to the court clerk’s office. The window portion of the project should take another 2-3 weeks before crews can begin installing the new entrances. Bad weather forecasts for next week may delay the work further.

The board also discussed COVID-19 procedures for the courthouse. It agreed the current guidelines are working, so no action was taken.

The board approved minutes for the previous month along with the monthly officers’ reports, alcoholic beverage certificates and appropriations. The board also approved blanket purchase orders and purchase orders for payment.

The board approved several more road crossing and rightof-way permit application for the Invenergy project in Districts 1 and 2. The board will continue to approve these permit applications as they are able to inspect them.

The board reconvened into to the Custer County Law Enforcement Center Trust meeting. The board approved minutes for the previous month and received the trust update.

In unforeseen business, OSU Extension Interim Director Jordan Nell said each district had one candidate file for the Custer County Fair Board, meaning there will be no election. Jennifer Payne, District 2, and Jay Baker, District 3, refiled for their current seats. Adeline Enochs in District 1 is being replaced by Barbara Hatfield.
