ARAPAHO — The Custer County Board of Commissioners approved an Interlocal Cooperative agreement between Custer County and Beckham County.

This agreement includes a half a mile of road located between on SH 34 and the county line between Beckham and Custer County being repaired by Custer County.

The road being repaired is 1050 Rd from 830 W to SH 34 north of Elk City. The road finished being repaired today and the cost was approximately $7,000. District 3 Commissioner Lyle Miller said Beckham County has agreed to pay for the rock and oil, which is the main expense.

“We are chip sealing our part of that road,” Miller said. “This is normal maintenance and there is half a mile of road which lays between SH 34 and the county line which belongs to Beckham County. The same taxpayers are driving on that road, whether they live in Beckham or Custer Counties. To pull equal maintenance, I decided to get the half a mile of road fixed.”

Miller said the Counties are a team and work on projects together.

“It does not matter if it is Custer County, Beckham County or any other counties, we serve the same people,” Miller said. “They are just imaginary lines and it made sense for us to fix these roads since Custer County residents drive on this road often, even though the road is in Beckham County.” District 1 Commissioner Wade Anders said Roger Mills County had an oil truck break down and Custer County lent them an oil truck a few years ago to use for a week.

“Since they used the truck for oil, they later helped me in return,” Anders said. “I needed rock hauled somewhere and they helped me haul rock. Working together with the other counties can benefit both of us.”
