The Hydro-Eakly boys basketball team returns all five starters from a team which made the state tournament last season.

This season, they’re hungry and ready to make a run at a state championship.

“I am excited about this upcoming season,” coach Rick Gore said. “We have some really good players and all my starters are returning. We want to play a complete season and I am trying to stay positive.”

The starters for this are four juniors and a senior. Senior Kade Berkey, and juniors Nolan Gore, Paxton Price, Kolsen Tharp and Carson Propps return from a team which went 26-5.

Gore said the experience has been good and helped them during a scrimmage they had.

“We have had some really good practices,” Gore said. “We had a good scrimmage and all of our experience showed during the scrimmage.” Last season, the Bobcats succeeded all expectations by getting to the state tournament with four sophomores and a junior. Gore said all the success from last season can help them this season, but are focused on playing well in the regular season before the playoffs.

“Any time you get beat in the big house, you want to get back and win,” Gore said. “We want another chance and lots of teams get beat in the big house. Right now, we are worried about one game at a time and we are just ready to play. We will worry about the playoffs when that time rolls around.”

Hydro-Eakly opens the season, 8 p.m. November 10 at home against Binger-Oney.
