Teresa Johnson, eighth grade through tenth grade ELA teacher at Hydro-Eakly Public Schools, was awarded a $500 grant provided by the Oklahoma Educators Credit Union Teacher Grant Program.

The OECU Grant Committee met and reviewed more 125 grant applications which were submitted this year. Johnson was one of 65 recipients of the 2020 Teacher Grant.

The application form was on the OECU website and needed to be completed by June 26.

“It was an easy process, and honestly, I can’t believe more people didn’t apply,” Johnson said.

Johnson wanted to receive this grant so she could supply students at Hydro-Eakly with materials and books they need.

Lora Burch, Hydro-Eakly Middle School and High School principal, said she was excited Johnson received the award.

“She worked long hours during the summer trying to receive this award,” Burch said. “She pre-read many books she would like to purchase for her eighth, ninth and tenth grade students. She went out of the way for her students to have great books to read.”

Johnson says she plans to purchase novel sets for her classroom.

“I was very excited when I received the letter in the mail,” Johnson said. “This will allow me to help my students without using money from my school or myself.”
