Investigation continues into shooting near SWOSU

No new information has been released as of press time Thursday for the alleged robbery and shooting involving a SWOSU athlete.

Weatherford police responded Tuesday to reports of shots fired about 5:23 p.m. Tuesday at 101 E. University Drive in Weatherford.

This location is a large apartment complex on the north side of Weatherford off campus.

Upon arrival, officers found two men had been shot. Further investigation revealed the suspect had a gun then shot the victim.

The victim then pulled his gun and shot the suspect. Both people were taken to the hospital and then were transferred to Oklahoma City for medical treatment. The investigation into the alleged robbery is active and ongoing.

WPD has suspect(s) detained and can confirm there is no longer a threat to the public.

According to police records Kingsley Ehiemua, 19 of Fort Worth, Texas, was arrested following the incident on suspicion of armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

During the alleged robbery, SWOSU put out an alert of an active shooter on campus.

SWOSU has confirmed Ehiemua is a student athlete at the university.

SWOSU is aware he is a student and acknowledges Weatherford police are in charge of the investigation, said Brian Adler, vice president of communications and public relations.

Ehiemua is listed as a redshirt freshmen quarterback at SWOSU according to the 2020 football roster.

The Weatherford Daily News is in contact with the Weatherford Police Department and Southwestern Oklahoma State University and will report more information on the incident as it becomes available.
