The Weatherford Food and Resource Center is asking local gardeners to consider growing an extra row of vegtables for donation this season.

“At Weatherford Food and Resource Center, we not only need out pantry stocked with food but also with nutritional food,” WFRC Director Lori Flansburg said.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture recommends people fill half of their plate with fruits and vegetables, and fresh produce is optimal. This is especially important for growing children and older adults with ongoing health needs.

“Our client’s health depends on what we offer,” Flansburg said. “A good portion of them have diets which require low sugar, low sodium and low carbs due to diabetes or heart issues. Fresh fruits and veggies will do everyone’s body good.”

Produce can be dropped off during operation hours at the south door along West Rainey Avenue. WFRC hours of operation are 1-6:30 p.m. Monday, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 1-3 p.m. Wednesday and Friday.

Those interested in donating or in need of assistance can call (580) 774-5377. More information also can be found at www.weatherfordfrc.org.
