Thanks to two grants, the City of Weatherford has been able to complete a new playground in Heritage Park, across the street from Weatherford City Hall.

The city received a grant from the Midwestern Oklahoma Development Authority, in Burns Flat, for $17,000.

Weatherford also may receive a Kaboom grant for $15,000. With these grants, Weatherford improved Heritage Park, including a new playground which was complete Tuesday. Work began Monday morning.

“We have been very fortunate,” Mayor Mike Brown said. “This grant money has been a nice edition and will be used on Heritage Park.”

Heritage Park is located right across the street from City Hall along Rainey Avenue. Mayor Brown said the park will see additional improvements around the park in late August or early September.

“People already are making great use of this park,” Brown said. “We wanted to begin these improvements this summer, but we are going to wait until SWOSU students return to class this fall. A new playground recently opened up Tuesday morning. We are just trying get it opened up and make it a fun spot for people who live in Weatherford and for people who want to stop who are passing by on Route 66.”
