Bulldogs and Friends Dog Park is located at Heritage Park right off of Route 66.

The ribbon cutting for the park will be 6 p.m. Saturday during the Porch Party.

When talking about the park, Mayor Mike Brown said the park is meant to help draw peopl back to Route 66. Mayor Brown also said he wants to make Weatherford a stop along the road for travelers.

“The idea of Bulldogs and Friends is to make something for people who live here, but also for the people who are traveling,” Mayor Brown said.

Mayor Brown also talked about the name Bulldogs and Friends.

“We really wanted to carry on the Bulldog name from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, but also include dog friends and people friends,” Mayor Brown said.

SWOSU student Brenden Riley said he likes taking his dog to the park since he lives in an apartment and the park makes it possible for his dog is able to meet other dogs.

“We live in an apartment and want our dog to be able to get outside and run around for a little while,” Riley said. “He can get some exercise and he can socialize with other dogs.

A dog park has been on the radar during all community planning public events.
