An alleged robbery and shooting involving an accomplished SWOSU athlete and another male went bad Tuesday evening north of the SWOSU campus when the victim and assailant were both shot.

Weatherford police responded to overnight reports of shots fired about 5:23 p.m. Tuesday at 101 E. University Drive in Weatherford.

This location is a large apartment complex on the north side of Weatherford off campus.

Upon arrival, officers found two men had been shot. Further investigation revealed the suspect had a gun then shot the victim.

The victim then pulled his gun and shot the suspect. Both people were taken to the hospital and then were transferred to Oklahoma City for medical treatment. The investigation into the alleged robbery is active and ongoing.

WPD has suspect(s) detained and can confirm there is no longer a threat to the public.

According to police records Kingsley Ehiemua, 19 of Fort Worth, Texas, was arrested following the incident on suspicion of armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

During the alleged robbery, SWOSU put out an alert of an active shooter near campus.

SWOSU has confirmed Ehiemua is a student athlete at the university.

“SWOSU is aware he is a student and acknowledges Weatherford police are in charge of the investigation,” Brian Adler, vice president of communications and public relations said.

Ehiemua is listed as a redshirt freshmen quarterback at SWOSU according to the 2020 football roster.

The Weatherford Daily News is in contact with the Weatherford Police Department and SWOSU and will report more information on the incident as it becomes available.

Police said Tuesday afternoon, more information would be available today after officers learned of additional information Wednesday.
