Southwestern Oklahoma State University fall semester classes start August 17, and the New Student Orientation Office has planned several “Dawg Days” activities to welcome new freshmen to the Weatherford campus. And, a big “Bulldog Strong” event is planned for all SWOSU students.

SWOSU New Student Orientation Coordinator Taler Alexander said the activities are a great opportunity for new students to meet and reconnect with friends.

As with all campus events, social distancing and wearing face coverings will be in place.

The Starting Block kicks off Wednesday, August 12, at 7 p.m. on the Memorial Student Center lawn. Students will meet other students in their first-year experience course.

On the following night (August 13) at 7 p.m., New Dawg Welcome will take place at Milam Stadium. All freshmen are required to attend the event, which will feature a few speakers and updates on the fall semester/SWOSU traditions.

Then on Friday, August 14, at 7:30 p.m., a Back to School Bash & Movie Night is planned on the Memorial Student Center lawn. Different student organizations will be present with a variety of games followed by a movie—The Goonies.

Weatherford merchants and banks are also planning an event in Towne Centre for all SWOSU students on Thursday, August 20, from 6-8 p.m.

The Welcome Back “Bulldog Strong” Event will be held from 6-8 p.m. and will feature five $1,000 scholarship giveaways, free ice cream truck, music, free hot dogs and bottled water, corn hole tourneys with prizes and a treasure hunt with many businesses staying open late.
