• Weatherford High School teacher Dennis Seifried kissed a pig to finish off Distributive Education Clubs of America week. His classroom took first place in the fundraisers, which achieved $228.87 schoolwide.

• The Bar-B-Que Shed’s smoker malfunctioned, causing the building to be covered in smoke.

• Southwestern Oklahoma State University senior Megan Fox and her fiancé Roger Roussell hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for the SWOSU basketball players who were unable to go back home during the holiday break.

• The YMCA Child Development Center hosted its annual holiday skit show.

• Showest 3 Theatres, now Showest 4 Theatres, had “The 6th Day,” “Remember the Titans,” “102 Dalmatians” and “Dr. Seuess’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas” in its movie lineup. Tickets were $3.50 a any time.

1980

• The City of Thomas has its own closed circuit cable channel overseen by SWOSU graduate student Diana Herrera-Ortiz. Programming included local awards, school activities, community events and preproduced programs.

• Pepperidge Farm brand 8-ounce stuffing mixes sold for 59 cents at United Supermarkets.

• Veal’s Meat Market, owned by Donnie and Kim Veal, opened for business along Davis Street. The market sold classic items such as steaks, roasts, ground meats and lunch meats as well as homemade barbecue and chili.

• Weatherford kindergarten students dressed up as pilgrims for their school Thanksgiving dinner.

• The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported the Turkey supply that year was about 4-to-6-percent less than the previous years while the birds were smaller and more expensive due to the rather severe summer weather.

1960

• Southwestern Lanes, located along Broadway Street across from the Weatherford Daily News office, opened for the first time. Shoe rentals were 15 cents a night and lane rental was 45 cents per person.

• Christmas greeting cards sold for 77 cents at TG&Y Family Center.

• Weatherford senior football players Jerry Gregory, Darrell Brite, Terry Jones, Kent Morris and Willie Kirby were named to the 1960 2B All-District Team. Players from Cordell, Geary and Watonga also were chosen.

• Two cameras and an electronic flash valued at $500 unit were stolen from a SWOSU dorm.

• The Porter House Café suffered $2,500 worth of damage — about $22,000 today — after a kitchen fire almost destroyed the back of the building. The front of the building also received considerable water damage.
