Washita Co. case dismissed after defendant’s death

A case has been dismissed against an Elk City man who was being accused of running over his boyfriend with his vehicle after the defendant died October 8.

District Attorney Angela Marsee dropped the case against Chauncey Bryce Neal after learning of his death.

According to an obituary from Whinery Funeral Service of Elk City, Neal died October 8 in Norman.

Neal faced a domestic assault and battery charge, leaving the scene of an accident, assault and/or battery on an emergency medical technician, and driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs, according to Washita County District Court records.

Neal was accused of driving a Mitsubishi Outlander near Canute and striking a victim with his car. After hitting the victim with the car, Neal was accused of leaving the scene and soon after struck a fence. When medical assistance arrived, Neal was accused of assaulting the medical technician who was on duty. He was also accused of pushing the care provider down with the intent to initiate harm to the victim, according to court records.
