Weatherford beats Hydro-Eakly in 9 innings

HYDRO — It took 9 innings to get a winner between Weatherford and Hydro-Eakly on the softball diamond Monday.

In the end, Weatherford came away with a 5-4 victory.

In the top of the ninth, Camry Teasley led off the inning with a single to right field. Hunter Bayless got on base as well with a bunt-single. Two batters later, Kennedy Stewart was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Bayless scored as Megan Mills hit a sacrifice fly ball out.

Hydro had a chance to tie or win the game in the bottom of the ninth after Kira Berkey hit a triple to lead off the inning. She wasn’t able to cross the plate. Tessa York also drew a 1-out walk in the inning.

Weatherford got on the board first in the top of the third. Bayless hit a 2-out single to center field. She scored in the next at bat as Abbie Moses singled to right field. Weatherford was ahead 1-0.

Hydro took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Rees Berkey reached base on an error to get things started. She scored as York hit a double to left field. the game was tied, 1-1.

Lotti Parker singled to put runners on the corners with no one out. Two batters later, York scored on a sacrifice fly by Casady Sublett. Hydro was ahead 2-1.

The Lady Bobcats added a run in the bottom of the fifth. Katey Buss singled to center field to lead off the inning. Macey Buss singled to right field to put two on with no one out. Two batters later, Katey Buss scored on a sacrifice fly by Rees Berkey. Hydro was ahead 3-1.

That lead didn’t last long as Weatherford tied the game, 3-3, in the top of the sixth. Bayless was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. She scored as Moses doubled to right field. Three batters later, C Chase singled. Hayden Warren, pinch-running for Moses, scored when Cydnee Henderson singled.

Neither team scored in the seventh inning, sending the game into extra innings.

Weatherford broke the tie in the top of the eighth. Moses singled to lead of the inning. Three batters later, Dacey Morris reached base on an error. Ember Hensley was pinch-running for Stewart, who reached base on a fielder’s choice play. Hensley scored as Henderson singled to center field. it was 4-3 Weatherford.

Hydro tied the game, 4-4, in the bottom of the eighth. Parker led off the inning with a single to right field. Two batters later, Kenzie Rodriquez hit a bunt-single to put runners on the corners with 1 out. Parker scored in the next at bat on a passed ball to tie the game, leading to the ninth inning.
