Fire prevention week at Weatherford Public Schools started Tuesday.

Each year the fire department takes time to teach rules to prevent a fire or the actions to take in the event of a fire.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Weatherford Fire Department has made several changes to fire prevention week.

“We usually do three groups, we are going to do eight this year in order to keep students separated,” Capt. Jarrod Burton of the Weatherford Fire Department said.

Usually an assembly will take place during fire prevention week but do to COVID-19 the assembly will not take place.

“It’s sad because we usually get to interact with the kids, and the clowns we have performing won’t be able to get within the crowd like usual,” Burton said.

The smokehouse event will be available for students to participate in this year. The smokehouse activity teaches students what to do in the event of a fire.

“The kids love the smoke house activity so we are happy we get to bring it back,” Burton said.
