The Weatherford Public School Board had a brief special meeting Wednesday afternoon to discuss moving to school start date to August 20 on request of the Return to Learn Committee.

Weatherford Superintendent Chad Wilson said August 5-19 is needed as professional development days for teachers and administrators to become familiar with Schoology and Edgenuity online Learning programs before school begins.

In addition, the district has not received its shipment of Chromebooks, which the teachers also need to become familiar with.

The board unanimously approved pushing back the first day of school to August 20.

The board also approved selling masks as a fundraisers for all five school sites. The masks, which will have the Weatherford Eagle symbol on the front, most likely will sell for $10 each. The masks have adjustable ear loops and replaceable filters.

The sites also will be selling gaiters, a purely fabric mask which sits around the neck and can be pulled up to cover the mouth/nose area, with the Eagles symbols will sell for $12 each.

The masks will be available at the beginning of school.

The Oklahoma State Board of Education will meet 9:30 a.m. this morning to discuss several emergency policies related to the COVID-19 pandemic. These policies could change back-to-school plans for many districts. A live-stream of the meeting will be available on the Oklahoma State Department of Education’s website.
