The Weatherford superintendent and principals gave their monthly reports during the regular school board meeting Monday night.

Interim Superintendent Steve Callen said the district is in a good financial state and has had no unexpected expenses. The annual remediation report, which tracks how many Weatherford graduates are required to take remedial courses at university, has been received. This report is for the Class of 2018.

Bond project are moving as expected despite the recent weather events. The Gen. Thomas P. Stafford Elementary site should be “dried-in” soon, which will help to prevent any further weather delays.

Structural beams are being placed at the East Elementary construction site. The Weatherford High School field house is almost finished. However, athletes have already been using the building.

The Weatherford High School track and turf for Wood Roof Field are next on the project list. These are partially funded by the new one-penny sales tax, which replaced the old one in October.

Burcham Elementary

Burcham has started serving breakfast in the pre-k classrooms to ensure all students are able to eat. Principal Brooke Brown said this has been great for the students and the school plans to expand this to older grades next school year.

East/West Elementary

The school ran a mock election Tuesday and results unsurprisingly reflected Weatherford’s with President Donald Trump as the winner.

Weatherford Middle School

Students visited SWOUS to learn about different medical-related majors as part of Eagle Medical Tech.

Five students were named to all-state band, and nine made it to the second round of all-state choir audition. All were hosted virtually this year.

WMS and Weatherford High School will virtually join the Muskogee speech and debate tournament this weekend.

Weatherford beat Clinton in the Custer County Conflict Food Drive, which benefits the Weatherford Food and Resource Center. The sixth grade class will get a pizza party for having the most donations in the school.

Weatherford High School

Out of 19 students who auditioned, 16 have been called for the second round of all-state choir auditions. Seven band members made it to all-region and will go on to all-state auditions.

Teachers have been working toward making schoology classrooms more parent-friendly by creating a more uniform look across the district. Teachers from each school site came together for a training session and will bring that information back to their colleagues.

School Resource Officer Justin Bushong also gave his first monthly report. He said he is working on moving D.A.R.E. to schoology and should begin working with students again in January.

The Stop It app already has several downloads across the district. Bushong said he received several reports and has been working with students to resolve the issues. He also had the opportunity to speak with the WHS Criminology class and enjoyed that.
