The Weatherford Lady Eagles volleyball team has an 11 game win streak going as they defeated Classen SAS 3-1 Tuesday and Sharon-Mutual 3-0 Thursday.

“I tried multiple lineups this week and we played a variety of levels this week,” coach Sandi Barr said. “Being able to adjust to whatever lineup is played will help them be prepared for the postseason if any players are missing due to sickness or any other reason before the end of the season. The girls know their roles and know what to do in a variety of situations. This is where we struggled last year some so I am hoping it prepares us better this year.”

“It was another great win for us,” Barr said. “We came out strong but then struggled a bit about half way through the first set. We had to adjust to wearing masks and they had some very tall girls. However, we made adjustments and came back strong for the win.”

Weatherford and Classen SAS went toe to toe in set one, but Classen SAS pulled away and won 29-27. In the second set, Weatherford won 25-12. They won the third set 25-10 and the fourth set 25-13.

Barr said the masks might have affected the girls’ play in the first set, but she is super proud of how they overcame the adversity.

Classen SAS required players wear masks for the game.

“We adjusted to a 5-1 set and I think the girls got over worrying about masks and just wanted the win,” Barr said.

Weatherford 3, Sharon-Mutual 0

Weatherford wasted no time in the first set as they won 25-6. They won the second set 25-19 and they won the third set 28-18 with plays like Lakin Green getting a kill in the middle and when Sydney Barr put down an over-passed ball.

“We played our level of ball,” Barr said. “I made changes to each set of this game to our lineup and we adjusted well even if it took a little time to do it.”

With these wins, Weatherford improved to 11-1 on the season and they have the best record in Class 4A. Barr said it is super important to stay focused and there are some things which still need to be worked on.

“I think it is important to take it one game at a time,” Barr said. “We have to believe every game is one we have to work at and not think it will be easy. Also, we need to continue working on coverage, blocking and maintaining good morale.”
