7-RBI day helps Lady Eagles get first district win

ELGIN — Two 5-run innings and 7 RBIs from Meliah Brown helped the Weatherford Lady Eagles win at Elgin in the opening district game.

In the process of recording 7 RBIs, Brown went 3-5 and also scored a run in the game. She also pitched 7 innings, giving up only 4 hits, 3 runs with 2 earned, while striking out four.

Elgin grabbed the early lead in the bottom of the first, scoring a run on a sacrifice ground out.

Weatherford responded in the top of the second with 5 runs.

Abbie Moses led off the inning with a single to right field. she scored two batters later as Megan Mills singled. The game was tied, 1-1.

Cassidy Adair drew a 2-out walk and Ember Hensley followed that up with a walk to load the bases with 2 outs. Brown hit a double to center field, scoring Mills, Adair and Hensley. Brown scored in the next at bat as Camry Teasley singled. It was 5-1 Weatherford.

Elgin cut into the lead in the bottom of the second, scoring a run as a runner stole second, the runner on third scored. It was 5-2 Lady Eagles.

Elgin added a run in the bottom of the third, scoring the run as a batter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. It was 5-3 Weatherford.

The score stayed that way until the top of the fifth, when Weatherford scored 5 runs. Moses got things started hitting a single. Hunter Bayless reached base on an error. Two batters later, Kennedy Stewart walked and the bases were loaded with 1 out.

Adair reached base on an error and Moses scored. After that, Carsyn Chase singled to right field and Bayless scored. Stewart, Adair and Chase each scored as Brown tripled to right field. it was 10-3 Weatherford.

The final run was scored in the top of the seventh. Cydnee Henderson hit a 1-out single and scored two batters later when Brown hit her second triple of the game, this one to right field as well. It was 11-3 Weatherford.
