CORN — The Corn Bible Academy (CBA) Lady Crusaders volleyball team lost to Chisholm 3-0 Monday evening at home, but bounced back Tuesday beating Erick.

“Against Erick we started stronger than the night before,” coach Erin Basinger said. “Against Erick, I wanted to see us clean up the unforced errors and continue to improve throughout the game and we won.”

CBA won the first set 25-15 and won the second set 25-23 and it was a tight one. Erick won the third set 25-22, but bounced back and won the fourth set 25-15.

“We maintained control of the first set, but struggled with errors during the second and third sets,” Basinger said. “We were able to get our hits in during the fourth set, allowing us to win and we learned we need ready to play.”

Chisholm 3, Corn Bible 0

In the first game, CBA lost 25-11. In the second game, they lost 25-12 and in the third game, they lost 25-14.

“We started out slow in the first game, and were never able to raise our level of play to where we wanted it to be,” Basinger said. “We gave away points by making unforced errors early, and then could not catch up. In the second and third sets, we were able to stay competitive a little longer each time, but eventually we would give up several points in a row and lose the momentum.”

Basinger said there were some positives she took away, even though they were defeated.

“We learned we have to work together and we have to come to the game prepared to play,” Basinger said. “On a positive note, we did see improvement as the game progressed and we did not give up.”

CBA is 2-2 and they return to action, 8 a.m. Saturday against Clinton in the Weatherford tournament.

“We are looking forward to the tournament this weekend,” Basinger said. “Tournaments are always great opportunities to improve since you get to play so much in one day. We have the opportunity to bring both the Junior Varsity and the Varsity to this tournament, so everyone will get lots of experience.”
