Clinton sweeps Weatherford in mid-week games

CLINTON—The Weatherford Eagles summer baseball team dropped two games this week at rival Clinton.

Clinton won both games, 3-0 and 4-3 Tuesday.

Clinton 3, Weatherford 0

In the opening game, Weatherford struggled to get runners on the bases, only collecting 3 hits.

Clinton grabbed an early lead in the bottom of the first on an error.

In the top of the second, Gunnar Gaunt got on base, but was unable to get around to score.

Weatherford pitching held firm for most of the game, only giving up 3 hits.

Clinton’s other 2 runs came in the bottom of the fourth on back-to-back sacrifice ground outs.

Weatherford got two on base in the top of the fifth with back-to-back singles by Callen Agan and Reece Villines. But, neither came around to score.

Clinton 4, Weatherford 3

In the second game, Weatherford grabbed the early lead before Clinton came back to win it in walk-off style.

Villines reached base in the top of the first on an error. He scored two batters later as Murphy Beck tripled to right field. Weatherford was ahead 1-0 early.

Clinton took the lead in the bottom of the second on a 2-run home run over the wall in left field. Clinton was up 2-1.

Weatherford tied it, 2-2, in the top of the fourth. G Chaplin drew a lead-off walk. Wyatt Chisum reached base on an error. Chaplin scored as Chishum stole second base.

In the top of the fifth, Weatherford grabbed the lead 3-2. Jayden Minter led off the inning with a walk. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Sam Hoffman.

Clinton’s runs to win the game in the bottom of the fifth came on an RBI single to left field and a fielder’s choice play.
