SWOSU had the opportunity to host the 2021 Great American Conference Spring Cross Country Championships on a foggy Saturday morning at Rader Park in Weatherford.

The SWOSU cross country team earned an eighth-place finish at the race, their first and only official competition of the spring season. The Bulldogs had a team score of 230 points, which placed eighth out of 11 league members schools who competed.

Oklahoma Baptist won the conference championship by 14 points ahead of Arkansas Tech with three of the top four placers, led by individual league champion Emma Downing.

SWOSU was led by Josilyn Schenk, who finished 23rd with a 5K time of 19:55 and she was followed by Abigail Lewis, 36th, Courtney Williams, 52nd, Bailey Richardson, 67th, and Zalee Tapia, 74th, to round out the scoring.

“I’m really proud of the way our girls kept their spirits up with all of the adversity they face this season,” SWOSU coach Jennifer Johnson said after the race. “Everyone performed really well today. I couldn’t be prouder of Josilyn’s PR of almost a minute and a half from last year. I’m looking forward to see what the future holds for this team.”
