Eagles sweep Kingfisher, tie Clinton in mid-week games

Weatherford picked up two wins Monday at home against Kingfisher and tied a game Tuesday night at home against Clinton.

Monday, they won the first game 5- 2 and the second game 5-3. Tuesday night, the game ended in a tie, 7-7.

Weatherford 5, Kingfisher 2

In the first game, Weatherford was on the board first as they scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first. With the bases loaded, Gunner Gaunt scored a run from third base as Kade Kelsey was hit by a pitch. The next run for the Eagles was scored by Murphy Beck from third base as the bases were loaded and Reece Villines walked.

Weatherford scored 3 runs in the bottom of the second, taking a commanding 5-0 lead. Gaunt hit a line-drive single into left field and Grady Chaplin scored from third base. Beck hit a line-drive double into center field and Gaunt and Sam Hoffman scored on the play.

Weatherford had a 5-0 lead going into the top of the fifth and needed 3 outs to win the game. Kingfisher would not go away as they scored two runs off of 2 singles. It was not enough for the Yellowjackets to threaten Weatherford as Weatherford won 5-2.

Weatherford 5, Kingfisher 3

In the second game, Weatherford scored the first 2 runs in the bottom of the second off of an error by Kingfisher. Gaunt hit a hard ground ball to third base and Wyatt Chisum and Hoffman each scored a run. Kingfisher responded by scoring 3 runs in the top of the third off an error by Weatherford, a single and a walk with the bases loaded.

Weatherford regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth as they scored 3 runs. Gaunt hit a line-drive single into left field and Hoffman scored. Villines hit a ground ball to first base, but Beck scored from third base. With one out, Cameron Pruit struck out, but Gaunt scored from third base when the dropped third strike was thrown to first base to get Pruit out. Weatherford got all three outs in the top of the fifth and Weatherford won 5-3.

Clinton 7, Weatherford 7

In the top of the first, Clinton scored the first 2 runs off a single into center field. They scored 3 runs in the top of the second off a walk with the bases loaded and a single.

Weatherford scored 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Kelsey bunted to the pitcher and Beck scored from third base. Callen Agan hit a linedrive to center field and Villines scored. Kelsey scored a run off a wild pitch, but Weatherford still trailed 5-3 going into the top of the fifth. Clinton scored a run in the top of the fifth off a Weatherford error.

Weatherford took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, 7-6 as they scored 4 runs. Gaunt hit a single into left field and Pruit scored. Beck hit a ground ball and Clinton turned the double play, but Dane McPherson scored a run. Gaunt scored as Weatherford loaded the bases on a passed ball, to tie the game 6-6. Agan hit a single ground ball to third base and Villines scored from third base.

Clinton scored a run to tie the game, 7-7 in the top of the sixth off an Eagle error. Each team would score another run and the game ended in a tie at 7.
