Eagles win Bottle Rocket Classic

WOODWARD — The Weatherford Eagles summer baseball team picked up another tournament win, winning five consecutive games in the Bottle Rocket Classic tournament at Woodward this past weekend.

Thursday, they played two games and their first win was a 16-1 run rule against the South Central Gassers and the next win was 15-5 against the Travelers Blue. Saturday, they played a game and won 16-1 against the Travelers Navy. Sunday, they played two games and their first win was against Lookeba -Sickles 5-4. That win gave Weatherford a spot in the championship game and they won 11-3 against the Travelers Blue.

Weatherford 16, South Central Gassers 1

This game only lasted 3 innings as Weatherford had 11 hits and 0 errors. In the bottom of the first, Gunnar Gaunt hit a double into left field and Dane McPherson scored from second base. Murphy Beck hit a triple into center field in the next at bat and Gaunt scored from second base. Kade Kelsey hit a single into right field and Beck scored. It was 3-0 Weatherford.

In the top of the second, McPherson hit a sacrifice fly ball into center field. Cameron Pruit scored on that play. Beck hit a double into right field and Jayden Minter and Wyatt Chisum scored. Braden Epp hit a 3-run home run over the left field fence with Gaunt and Beck both scoring as well as Epp. It was 9-0 Weatherford.

In the top of the third, Weatherford scored an additional 7 runs. Reece Villines was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Minter scored from third base. Sam Hoffman hit a ground ball to third base and reached first off an error. As a result of the error, Chisum and Grady Chaplin scored. McPherson hit a single into right field and Villines scored. Gaunt hit a sacrifice fly ball into center field and was out, but as a result, Hoffman scored. Beck hit a single into center field and McPherson scored. Callen Agan hit a single into left field and Beck scored. It was 16-0 Weatherford.

South Central scored 1 run in the bottom of the third, but it was not enough as Weatherford won 16-1.

Weatherford 15, Travelers Blue 5

It took Weatherford a while to get going as Travelers Blue scored a run in the first 2 innings and were ahead 2-0 going into the top of the third.

In the top of the third, Weatherford took control and scored 6 runs in this inning. Gaunt hit a double into right field and Hoffman scored. Beck hit a triple into right field and Gaunt scored. Epp also hit a triple and Beck scored. Kelsey hit a single into right field and Epp scored. Minter hit a triple into right field and Kelsey scored. Chaplin hit a single into left field and Minter scored. It was 6-2 Weatherford.

Travelers Blue answered Weatherford scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the third, making the score 6-4. They scored the runs off a couple of singles.

Weatherford scored 3 runs in the top of the fourth. McPherson scored from third base as the bases were loaded and Beck was walked at the plate. Kelsey hit a single into right field and Gaunt scored. Agan hit a ground ball, but Beck scored on that play. It was 9-4 Weatherford.

Weatherford kept the momentum going as they scored 6 runs in the top of the fifth. McPherson hit a ground ball to the third baseman and he reached first base on an error and Chaplin scored. Gaunt hit a single into left field and Hoffman scored. Beck hit a single into center field and McPherson scored. Epp hit a single into center field and Beck and Gaunt scored. Pruit hit a ground ball to first base. He was out, but Epp scored on that play. It was 15-4 Weatherford

The Travelers Blue scored a run in the bottom of the fifth on a ground ball fielder’s choice, but it was not enough to even threaten Weatherford as they won 15-5.

Weatherford 16, Travelers Navy 1

Weatherford run ruled the Travelers Navy in three innings. Travelers Navy scored the first run of the game off of a sacrifice fly.

Weatherford fired right back and scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first. Gaunt hit a single into left field and Hoffman and McPherson scored. Gaunt scored on a passed ball when Epp was batting and Epp hit a triple into center field. Epp scored on a passed ball when Kelsey was at the plate and he was walked. It was 4-1 Weatherford.

In the bottom of the second, Chisum scored from third base as Beck was walked when the bases were loaded. Epp hit a double into right field and McPherson and Gaunt scored. Kelsey hit a single into right field and Beck and Epp scored. It was 9-1 Weatherford.

Weatherford scored 7 runs in the bottom of the third. Hoffman hit a fly ball into center field and was out, but Minter scored. Chisum scored on a passed ball and Mcpherson scored on a passed ball as well. Beck scored as he stole home after a passed ball. Agan hit a fly ball into center field and Epp scored. Minter was walked and Kelsey scored as the bases were loaded. Chisum was hit by a pitch and Agan scored the game winning run from third as the bases were loaded. It was 16-1 Weatherford.

Weatherford 5, Lookeba-Sickles 4

Weatherford scored the first two runs in the bottom of the first. Kelsey hit a single into left field and Hoffman and Gaunt scored. It was 2-0 Weatherford.

Loobeka-Sickles answered scoring a run in the top of the second and third innings. They scored their run in the second inning off a single and in the third inning, a ground ball was hit and Weatherford got the out, but Lookeba-Sickles scored a run. The game was tied at that point, 202.

Lookeba scored 2 runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead off an error by Weatherford. Weatherford trailed 4-2 going into the bottom of the fifth.

In the bottom of the firth, there were 2 outs and Agan stole second base. While Agan stole second, Beck scored by stealing home. That made the score 4-3 Lookeba-Sickles.

Weatherford tied the game in the bottom of the sixth as Epp hit a single into left field and Villines scored.

Beck scored the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh as Kelsey hit a single into right field and Weatherford won 5-4.

Weatherford 11, Travelers Blue 3

In the championship game, Weatherford scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first as Gaunt hit a single into left field and Epp scored. That gave Weatherford the early 1-0 lead.

Travelers Blue responded by scoring 2 runs in the top of the second on a single and a fielder’s choice ground ball. The Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 2 as Chaplin hit a single into right field and Minter scored. Travelers Blue had the led, 2-1.

Weatherford tied the game, 2-2, in the bottom of the second as Chapin singled to right field and Minter scored.

Travelers Blue scored its final run of the game in the top of the third on a single. That made the score 3-1, but it didn’t last long, as Weatherford responded by scoring 6 runs in the bottom of the third.

Kelsey hit a single into center field and Gaunt and Beck scored. Minter hit a single into left field and Kelsey scored. Chaplin hit a single into center field and Minter scored. Hoffman hit a double into center field and Villines scored. With the bases loaded, Gaunt was walked and Chaplin scored. Weatherford was ahead at that point, 8-3.

Weatherford scored a run in the bottom of the fourth as Minter hit a triple into right field and Kelsey scored. It was 9-3 Weatherford.

Weatherford scored its final 2 runs in the bottom of the fifth off a Travelers error, Epp hit a ground ball and reached base on the error and Chaplin and Hoffman scored for Weatherford as they won 11-3.
