Lauren Ramey recorded new season-highs with 19 points and 7 rebounds while Makyra Tramble poured in 20 points to help the SWOSU women’s basketball team move to 6-0 on the year and 2-0 against Southeastern with a 77-67 win at the Bloomer Sullivan Arena in Durant Thursday.

The Lady Bulldogs went into half trailing for the first time this season, 34-31 despite a 9-0 run in the second where SWOSU held Southeastern scoreless for nearly four minutes. SWOSU pulled away in the second half with the help of Tramble who scored 17 of her 20 points after half.

Tramble extended her doubledigit scoring streak to 26 with 20 points and four steals and Karly Gore notched her second doubledouble of the season, both against Southeastern, with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

“We came out strong in the second half and a lot of that is due to Taber Beer and her defensive presence,” coach Kelsi Musick said. “She really created pressure and forced turnovers in the backcourt that helped us regain control of the game.”

Beer continued to wreak havoc on opposing offenses with her fifth straight game of at least 3 steals while also scoring 6 points and dishing out 4 assists off the bench.

SWOSU 91, OBU 58

The SWOSU Women’s Basketball team completed the first round of Great American Conference divisional play with a 91-58 victory against Oklahoma Baptist at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center to improve to 5-0 on the year.

The Lady Bulldogs were down 12-9 three minutes into the first quarter after trading baskets to start the game before going on a 10-0 run, holding Oklahoma Baptist scoreless for almost four minutes to take a 26-19 lead at the end of the first.

Oklahoma Baptist would keep it close heading into half but SWOSU’s defense and stellar ball movement that has the Lady Bulldogs fourth in NCAA Division II in assists would close out the game with a 26-5 run.

SWOSU had at least five players in double-digits for the fourth straight game, with Tramble, 17 points, Gore, 15 points, Beer, 15 points, Lauren Ramey, 14 points, Macy Gore, 11 points, and Bethany Franks, 10 points, all reaching the mark.

Scoring was not the only thing SWOSU did as Tramble had her third double-double of the season, Karly Gore dropped a season-high with nine assists and Beer — who is tied for 12th in NCAA Division 2 with 3.5 steals per game — had six steals on the day to go along with five threes.

“Taber Beer is doing great coming off the bench,” Musick said. “She has embraced the role and played tons of minutes off the bench giving us scoring and ball pressure.”

The Lady Bulldogs move to 6-0 on the season with a win, kicking off the second round of GAC play, which continues back at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center against East Central, 3-1, Saturday. The Tigers only loss on the season came from SWOSU to open the season.
