YUKON — The Weatherford Lady Eagles volleyball team bounced back from losing to Oklahoma Bible last week as they beat Southwest Covenant on the road 3-1 Thursday.

“I am so proud of the girls,” coach Sandi Barr said. “We have been in a bit of a slump the past week or two and needed this win. They looked so good for this game and our defense was on.”

Weatherford won the first set 25-20 and won the second set 25-15. Southwest Covenant refused to get swept and won the third set 25-16. Weatherford fired right back and won the fourth set 25-18. Barr said she moved some players around in the lineup and it definitely helped them get the win.

“I moved Aviree Roberson to the libero and she did a great job and both Dacia (Miranda) and Brooke (Barker) stepped up for us on the back row as well as Sydney Barr with some incredible digs,” Barr said. “Kaydence Bryson set amazing and Sydney killed the ball really well. My other hitters did well not only covering the net but adjusting as needed and playing defense as well.”

With this win, Weatherford improved to 15-3. With the postseason quickly approaching, Barr said the girls are still taking it one game at a time.

“I think any win at this point can prepare us for the postseason,” Barr said. “It will make it easier to bring back our momentum as we go into these last couple of games and our conference tournament to prove we still have fight. Right now, we are taking it one game at a time, then we will focus on the postseason.”

Weatherford returns to action, 6 p.m. this evening at home against Tuttle.

“In the Tuttle game, I want to see the same energy and defense they brought in the Southwest Covenant game,” Barr said. “It has to be their fight and their energy and when that happens, we will finish with wins in our last three games. Our team who played Thursday is such a strong team and capable of absolute greatness. I just want to see that team compete every game from here on out.”
