Lady Eagles top Elk City 6-3

ELK CITY — Weatherford’s fast-pitch softball team improved to 7-1 in district play with a 6-3 win Monday at Elk City.

The Lady Eagles opened the game scoring 2 runs in the top of the first inning. Meliah Brown and Camry Teasley each reached base on errors to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Brown scored as Abbie Moses hit a sacrifice ground out. Teasley scored when Kennedy Stewart singled to right field. Weatherford was ahead 2-0.

Elk City scored a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single, making the score 2-1.

In the top of the second, Vanessa Davis drew a 1-out walk. After the walk, Hayden Warren came in to pinch run. Brown then singled to left field. Both Warren and Brown scored two batters later as Hunter Bayless reached base on an error. It was 4-1 Weatherford.

Elk City cut the lead to 2 runs, scoring a run on an RBI single. It was 4-2.

Elk City added a run in the bottom of the sixth, on a sacrifice ground out, making the score 4-3 Weatherford.

The Lady Eagles added 2 runs in the top of the seventh. Cydnee Henderson led off the inning with a single. She scored as Brown singled to center field. Brown scored when Teasley singled. It was 6-3 Lady Eagles.

Brown also picked up the win, pitching 7 innings, giving up 6 hits, 3 runs and walking one. She struck out six.

Weatherford will play Thursday at the Bethany tournament. Their first game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. against Classen SAS at the Bethany High School softball field.
