SWOSU beats NWOSU in 5 sets

ALVA — For the third time in four matches this season, the SWOSU volleyball team went to five sets, but Wednesday night in Alva they picked up their first five-set win of the season by taking down Northwestern Oklahoma State 3-2 at Percefull Fieldhouse.

SWOSU dropped the first set 25-21 before seizing momentum and winning the second and third sets 25- 22, 25-18 to take the lead in the match. Northwestern needed extra points to win the fourth set 27-25 and even the match, but the Bulldogs used a 5-0 run to break a 5-all tie in the fifth and pulled away to take the set 15-9.

Lacy Mott led the Bulldogs with 17 kills and 22 digs while Samantha Kuzma added 15 kills and three blocks. Chezney Nielsen had 14 kills and 10 digs while Taryn Galt contributed 11 kills and 6 blocks. Allie Hoang led SWOSU by dishing out 45 assists and recording a team-high 24 digs and Emma Cohalla had a team-high 7 blocks.

With the win, SWOSU evens its record at 2-2 for the year and improves to 2-1 in Great American Conference play. The Bulldogs return to action Thursday against Southern Nazarene at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.
