The Thomas-Fay-Custer Terriers football team will play their first playoff game this Friday at home against Cordell.

Cordell defeated Burns Flat-Dill City 43-22 Friday.

“We feel like Cordell is a very athletic team,” coach Bob Ward said. “They have lots of speed and it will be an interesting game. We have played them a lot in the past and have had good success against them.”

These two teams have played each other 13 times. Thomas has won 12 of those 13 meetings. The last time these two teams played was last season and Thomas won 13-0. Ward said they will have to run the football well and they will have to stop Cordell from running the football as well.

“We are going to have to do a good job running the football and defending their run,” Ward said. “They have several players who can bounce outside and beat us with their speed.”

Ward said the team focused on one part of their game at a time during their practice and they must execute better than Cordell if they want to win Friday.

“We worked on individual parts this week one thing at a time,” Ward said. “We did special teams one day, offense one day and defense the next day. This time of the year comes down to simple execution. We have to do what we do well and we just have to execute better than your opponent.”

Ward said it is one game at a time now and they must be focused this week in practice.

“We must have a good attitude and work ethic this week,” Ward said. “We also must understand there are no redos this time of the year. One bad game and it is all done.”
