The Weatherford Lady Eagles volleyball team schedules tough opponents in hopes to prepare them for the postseason.

They begin their season against one of the top teams in Class 4A with a road trip to Bethany. Weatherford lost 3-2 to Bethany last season and went stride-forstride with them.

“Playing Bethany first is a tough start,” coach Sandi Barr said. “The girls were intimated by their middle, but she graduated last year. Bethany always is solid and we played them close last year. We almost won and we have a chance in this game.”

Other tough opponents on Weatherford’s schedule include Newcastle, Clinton, Corn Bible Academy and Southwest Covenant. Last season, Weatherford lost to Newcastle 3-1 in the first round of the Regional Tournament. “We are playing tough competition, but we can hold our own because we are tough,” senior Sydney Barr said. “The schedule will be a good fit for us. I am excited to play Clinton and Bethany since we played in close competitive games last year. I expect the same thing this year.”

The Lady Eagles are playing in three tournaments, including the Clinton Best of the West tournament, the Weatherford tournament and the conference tournament, hosted by Weatherford.

“We have to give 100 percent effort no matter what,” senior Kaydence Bryson said. “We will not give up and I will hold myself as well as other players accountable.”

Sydney Barr said the team has lots of chemistry, which will help them get through their schedule.

“We are working really well this year,” she said. “We get along great on and off the court which will definitely help us when games begin.”
