The Weatherford Lady Eagles volleyball team defeated Clinton 3-0 and improved their winning streak to 12 games.

“This was a good win,” coach Sandi Barr said. “I made some changes all evening to see how girls responded in certain areas and we won the game at the same time.”

In the first set, Weatherford got off a fast start as they were ahead 10-4 with plays like Sydney Barr having an ace.

Clinton went on a 3-0 run to make it 10-7. Weatherford built a 7-point advantage with a kill by Ireland Helton. The Lady Eagles kept going and built a double digit lead at 23-13. Weatherford won the set 25-13 with a kill from Jordan Hoffman and another ace from Sydney Barr.

In the second set, Clinton hung around early and only trailed the Lady Eagles 12-10. Clinton took their first lead at 15-14 and coach Barr called a timeout.

“I told my girls they needed to move their feet more,” Barr said. “I wanted to make sure they were playing our style and level of fast volleyball. Sometimes, we waiver and I told them to pick it up.”

Weatherford got back in the game with kills by Helton. The game was tied at 18, thanks to Helton having a block at the net. Weatherford was ahead 20-18 with plays like Hoffman killing the volleyball and Clinton called a timeout.

Weatherford had a 4-point lead at 23-19 but Clinton got within 2 points. Weatherford won the close set 25-23 with a kill by Hoffman.

Weatherford jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead with a kill by Lakin Green. Clinton got back in the game going on a 7-3 run and coach Barr called a timeout as her team was ahead 8-7. Clinton took the lead after the timeout, but Weatherford snagged the lead right back with a kill from Aviree Roberson, making the score 10-9. Clinton made some errors and the Lady Eagles found themselves in front 14-9. Helton had a kill giving Weatherford a 7 point advantage at 20-13.

“Ireland played amazing,” Barr said. “She gets up there and is able to hit some really good spots which not every player can get to.”

Weatherford improves to 12-1 and their next game is an important game. They play, 7 p.m. at home against No. 11 Cache.

“Thursday is a big game,” Barr said. “Last season, we should have beat them and we lost, but it was on the road. This season, we have the home court advantage and we are going to watch film on Cache and we plan on having some really good practices before Thursday night.”
