11th at Pre-State meet

EDMOND — The Weatherford Eagles Cross finished in 11th place at this past weekend’s Class 4A Pre-State Cross Country meet.

“We did not prepare right and we weren’t in the race mentally,” coach Kelab Fischer said. “AJ Stevenson was my only one who ran well and he had a great race.”

Community Christian won the race with 100 points and Cache finished second with102 points.

Individually, Weatherford’s Garry Rose finished in 25th with a time of 18:18.39. Stevenson finished 60th with a time of 19:31.80. Grant Christian finished 76th with a time of 19:54.01. Jacoby Welsh finished 77th with a time of 19:54.74. Luke Jett finished 106th with a time of 20:38.62. Jorge Martinez finished 169th with a time of 22:56.58. Luis Hernandez finished 176th with a time of 23:08.32. Ronaldo Garcia finished 214th with a time of 25:21.14.

“We just have to learn to run closer together and help each other out,” Fischer said. “I hope we got a bad race out of the way.”

Weatherford’s next meet is 9 a.m. at Watonga.

“We have to put ourselves out there in the race and just fight to be tougher,” Fischer said. “This week in practice, I want to see them work hard this week on being mentally tough.”
