ENID — The Weatherford Lady Eagles cross country team qualified for the Class 4A State Cross Country Meet with a second-place finish at Regionals in Enid.

This marks the eighth season in a row for Weatherford Cross Country to qualify for the state meet as a team.

“I was really happy with how the girls team placed,” coach Kaleb Fischer said. “I thought they ran really well and Peyton Foster had a big personal record.”

Weatherford finished in second place with 62 points. Kingfisher won the regional with 37 points.

Kennadi Price finished second with a time of 12:15.24. Jordan Hoffman finished third with a time of 12:23.02. Morgan Mouse finished 12th with a time of 13:01.52. Ana Arietta finished 16th with a time of 13:19.08.

Fischer said Mouse and Arietta had really good races which helped the girls finish in second place.

“Morgan and Ana are running really well right now and that is huge for us because of how important those two spots are on the team,” Fischer said. “I am happy with how they are running and looking forward to big things from them at state.”

Peyton finished 35th with a time of 14:25.50 and she also had a personal record. Ava Foster had a time of 15:50.93 and Brooklyn Floyd finished with a time of 16:19.93.

Fischer said it is really special to have teams continue to qualify for state and the boys team also has qualified for state eight seasons in a row.

“It means a lot to me to have teams that continue to qualify for state,” Fischer said. “It is always the goal to get both teams in”

Weatherford will compete in the state Cross Country meet at Edmond Santa Fe. The race begins, 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

“The confidence the girls are running with right now can help them run well at state,” Fischer said. “I think the girls just have to maintain the confidence and decide that they are going to do it.”
