Weatherford tops Hydro-Eakly 3-0

Two early runs set the pace for the Weatherford Lady Eagles in Tuesday’s game against Hydro-Eakly.

Weatherford won the game 3-0 to begin the regular season 1-0.

Meliah Brown picked up the victory for the Lady Eagles, going 7 innings, giving up 4 hits, 1 walk and striking out three.

Weatherford got on the board first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first.

Brown led off the inning with a single to right field. Camry Teasley followed that up with a single to center field. Both scored two batters later when Abbie Moses singled to center field, giving Weatherford the 2-0 lead.

After that, Hydro pitcher Lotti Parker settled down. She was pulled after 4 innings and Macey Buss, pitched the final two and only gave up 1 run in the bottom of the sixth. Moses led off that inning with a walk. Two batters later, Moses scored as Autumn Phillips hit a double to left field.

Hydro had their chances, with the first one in the top of the third as Katey Buss was hit by a pitch with 2 outs and Macey Buss singled to right field. Neither was able to score in that inning.

In the top of the fourth, Tessa York drew a 1-out walk but didn’t cross the plate.

In the top of the fifth, Paisley Vickery got on with a lead-off single to right field.

In the top of the sixth, Kira Berkey led off the inning reaching base on an error. Parker was hit by a pitch three batters later, but again, neither was able to score.

Kenzie Rodriquez was able to hit a 1-out double in the top of the seventh but wasn’t able to cross the plate.

Weatherford opens its season 1-0 and Hydro-Eakly drops to 1-1. The Lady Bobcats beat Carnegie 10-0 in their season opener Monday.

Weatherford was playing in the I-40 Classic this weekend at the softball fields in Rader Park.
