Weatherford suffered its second loss of the season Thursday night to No. 11 Cache 3-0 in a game which had playoff implications.

However, they bounced back Friday afternoon with a trip to Amber-Pocasset and the Lady Eagles left Amber-Pocasset with a 3-0 win.

“The Amber-Pocasset game went really well and we got the win,” coach Sandi Barr said. “We were on an emotional deflate and on the ride there, we were exhausted from the night before. I was able to play everyone and we all played well.”

Cache 3, Weatherford 0

In the first set, Cache built an early lead as they were ahead 13-7 early and coach Barr called a timeout to stop the bleeding. Cache continued to score and were ahead by double digits at one point. Cache closed out the set and won 25-12.

In the second set, Cache found themselves ahead 11-4 early. Cache went on a 7-3 run and was ahead 18-7. Cache won the set 25- 13, but Weatherford scored 4 points in a row before Cache won the set.

Weatherford competed much better in the third set. Weatherford trailed, but tied the set, 15-15. Cache grabbed the lead back by scoring two straight points. Weatherford responded and tied it again, 17-17. The Lady Eagles grabbed the lead with a block by Sydney Barr. Cache took the lead back as Weatherford tried some spikes but they went too long. Cache built a 24-18 lead, but Weatherford did not go away easily with plays like Aviree Roberson having a block at the net. Cache won the set 25-22.

“We fought hard at the end of the third set,” Barr said. “I think if we had fought like we did at the end of the third set, things would have fell differently. We waited too late to get it going and it was too little too late. I am proud of us for fighting at the end,” Barr said. “Sometimes, when you lose the first and second set like we did, it is hard to come back from. We have been working on being mentally tough in practice and we fought towards the very last point.”

Barr said she saw some positive things, despite losing 3-0.

“Cache had better hitters than we have seen in previous games,” Barr said. “We played good defense most of the way through. Cache does some crazy hit which threw the blockers and hitters off. We were not afraid to hustle and dive for the ball, which was encouraging going forward.”

Weatherford 3, Amber-Pocasset 0

Despite losing to Cache 3-0, Weatherford bounced back Friday by beating Amber-Pocasset 3-0.

Weatherford won the first set 25-16. They had little trouble in the second set, winning 25-17 and closed out the third set, winning 25-18. With this win, Weatherford got back on the winning track.

“We definitely hit a lot better,” Barr said. “Against Cache, we did not hit very well. We hit into the net a lot and against Amber-Pocasset, we did this a lot better.”

Weatherford improves to 14-2 on the season. This week, they play two tough 3A opponents. They played Oklahoma Bible Academy at home Monday and travel to Southwest Covenant Thursday.

“At this point in the season, we are finding out who we are,” Barr said. “We are a good team and have a tough week. We are figuring out where we are at mentally. We are capable of coming out with wins this week, but it depends on if we are ready to play or not.”
