The Weatherford Lady Eagles volleyball team now has a winning record as they defeated Tipton 3-0 Monday and defeated Newcastle 3-1 Tuesday.

Along with the winners, Tuesday’s game was senior night for the Lady Eagles.

“I am super proud of my girls,” coach Sandi Barr said. “We have been working all season on being mentally tough and it showed this week. The mental toughness showed against Newcastle when we lost the first set. I do not know if we had some senior night nerves, but we worked our nerves out and fought really hard and came out with the win.”

Weatherford 3, Newcastle 1

Newcastle jumped on Weatherford in the first set, winning 25-10.

In the second set, Weatherford was in control early and was ahead 16-10. Newcastle made a push but the Lady Eagles won 25-20.

The third set was similar to the second one as Weatherford was ahead 10-3 early. Weatherford built an 18-11 lead with plays like Sydney Barr setting Ireland Helton for a kill. The game ended with a kill by Lakin Green and Weatherford won 25-17.

In the fourth set, this set went back-and-forth and was a tight contest which featured many ties and lead changes.

Weatherford closed on a 7-2 run and won 25-21 with another kill by Bryson to end the match.

“Kaydence and Lakin played really well,” Barr said. “We put Kaydence in a role where she now is setting. She still is one of our best hitters, but is setting as well. She does a great job playing everywhere and she had some great hits for us as well as some great sets.”

Weatherford 3, Tipton 0

The Weatherford Lady Eagles volleyball team traveled to Tipton Monday and came back with a 3-0 win.

It was the team’s first win of the season and all three sets were won by a score of 25-13.

“This was a good win to improve our confidence,” Barr said. “Some of the girls are starting to get the kinks work out and get their timing down.”

Barr said the Lady Eagles are ready and are getting better and better as the season progresses and she is excited two players returned from injury.

“With last night’s win, we were able to build back some confidence and energy,” Barr said. “It is great to have Jordan Hoffman and Aviree Roberson back in our rotation.”

Barr said she ran a different set and the girls did an excellent job adapting and playing different positions than they are used to.

“We did better keeping our energy up and communicating,” Barr said. “We ran a 6-2 with Kaydence and Sydney Barr tonight which worked well for us. Lakin Green is getting better timing with setters.”

With the two wins earlier this week, Weatherford improves to 2-1 on the season and is in action this weekend in the Weatherford tournament. Their first match is 8 a.m. Saturday against Altus. The format of the tournament is pool play and then a bracket tournament following.

“I am excited for Saturday and it is going to be a great time,” Barr said. “This is my first time hosting a varsity volleyball tournament and I am really excited about this.”
