The delightfully morbid humor of “The Addams Family,” a musical comedy, will be performed again this week at Southwest Playhouse in Clinton.
The plot follows the loveably grim Addams Family as they deal with new challenges — Wednesday is all grown up and engaged to Lucas Beineke. However, not only is he painfully normal, he’s from Ohio.
While Lucas and Wednesday keep the exact nature of their relationship a secret from their families, Wednesday enlists the help of her father Gomez to host a “normal” family dinner with both families, after which the couple’s engagement would be announced.
Unfortunately, Lucas’ parents, Mal and Alice, aren’t as taken with the Addams’ morbid sensibilities. Morticia is not a fan of Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend, Pugsley feels like he is losing his sister and Gomez is trapped between keeping the engagement a secret and not lying to his wife.
Meanwhile, Uncle Fester has enlisted the help of the Addams’ ancestors as backup.
The first act comes to a climax after the ill-fated dinner and a game of “full disclosure.” Cracks in the relationships are revealed, and the young lovers run off to get married without the chaos of their judgmental parents.
Will Wednesday and Lucas get their happy ending? Will Morticia forgive Gomez for keeping secrets? Will Mal and Alice Beineke rekindle the romance in their marriage? Will Uncle Fester ever confess his love to the moon?
Find out this weekend at Southwest Playhouse. Playtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, followed by a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee.

As a bonus, the performance will feature a costume contest sponsored by the Weatherford Daily News. It is open to all children attending the show. Six lucky winners will receive large trickor-treat bags filled with goodies from candy to monster slime to Halloween masks.
