The Custer County Board of Commissioners was approached during Monday’s meeting regarding a project which would use the county’s American Rescue Plan Act funding.

Landon Holcomb with the Red Star Water District in Roger Mills County presented a proposal using ARPA money to replace the district’s 80 water meters. The new brass meters would have cellular inputs, allowing for more accurate readings which could be pulled up electronically by both the district and the land owners.

Additionally, the meters would save money by giving more accurate readings and providing early detection for leaks.

The board said they would take this proposal into consideration. No action was taken during the meeting.

Red Star Water District is not a part of Custer County. However, the county is allowed to give ARPA money to other entities.

The board also would need to run the proposal through Emblem, a company hired to manage ARPA funds and evaluate potential projects.

In other business, the board approved a $2,000 transfer for District 1 from M&O to Travel. The board also approved the surplus of a computer for the assessor’s office and a dump truck for District 1. The board approved the disposal of the computer as well.

The board approved a $2,800 purchase for the emergency management office for printing 50 Custer County Emergency Operations plans as well as producing several USB drives containing the plan.

The board approved blanket purchase orders, purchase orders for payment and a re-appointment to the Butler EMS Board.
