School board approves agreement with SWOSU for Title IX investigator

The Weatherford Public Schools Board of Education approved an agreement with Southwestern Oklahoma State University for a Title IX investigator during its regular meeting Monday evening.

Superintendent Jill Henderson said SWOSU approached the district about temporarily providing the university with a Title IX investigator. This agreement would allow WPS personnel to get hands-on training before returning to the district.

In other news, the board approved the alternative education play and gifted and talented plan for the 2021-22 school year. Both items are required by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. The board also granted rights for easement and right-of-way to Centerpoint Energy at the new school buildings.

The board approved a contract services agreement with Stacy Villines for speech/ language pathology during the 2021-22 school year. This will be on an as-needed basis because the district is required to keep a speech and language pathologist on staff at all times.

The board approved the fiscal year 2021-22 budget. Superintendent Henderson said this is an annual item with no significant changes. She said the encumbered budget is below the total amount to account for unforeseen expenditures.

The board approved three fundraisers for the take down club and newly re-started parent/ teacher organization. The board also approved 67 fund encumbrances totaling $273,742.70 for the general, building and child nutrition funds.

The board approved change orders and the activity fund custodian’s report. The board also approved the resignations of seventh grade math teacher Rebecca Orland, middle school special education teacher Brooklyn Bell, third grade teacher Stacy Cummins and middle school paraprofessional Kem Mendizabal.

The board approved the hiring of west paraprofessional Katelynn Walker, middle school paraprofessional Sarah Dean and special education teacher Cassidy Moses.
